What It Should Have Been is a series that takes a look at popular Android applications and how they should/could have been designed to meet the Android Design Guidelines.
Our previous redesigns that we looked at were created by other developers/designers, while this is our first attempt at redesigning the application ourselves.
What is wrong with the current application design?
What is it?
Package Buddy Pro is a Holo themed package tracker.
What does it do?
Allows package tracking and notifications of package movement. The Pro version also syncs with www.package-buddy.com allowing users to input tracking numbers and descriptions and sync with your phone.
Design Highlights:
Green accented Holo interface
Left to Right swipe navigation
Proper use of the action bar
Design / Function Requests:
Higher resolution icons in the Action Bar (xhdpi compatible)
Long press selecting of packages would use the secondary action window
Removal of the “Tap to Refresh” text, and implementation of a Refresh button in the Action Bar
Allow users to email tracking numbers/info to a @package-buddy.com email address that would convert and auto add the package to the tracked package listing (see Shiprack)
